About Sheepskin Hollow Preserve

According to the East Haddam Land Trust, which administers Sheepskin Hollow, the shallow, swampy pond at the northernmost reaches of the preserve was historically a thick quagmire that once swallowed up an entire team of horses! While this tall tale may very well have derived from a fantastic “what if” scenario dreamed up during Connecticut’s agricultural era, legends such as these abound within the state and add an intriguing dimension to the landscape. With towns that have existed for nearly 400 years and a Native American presence that stretches deep into prehistory, nearly every locality in Connecticut is ripe with its own rich narrative and unique anecdotes from bygone eras.
