New England Prospects is an exploration of the region’s scenery in the broadest sense: a voyage throughout New England illustrated in generous, panoramic detail. Inspired by the Colonial Era odyssey of writer William Wood, my Prospects photography collection invites you into immense New England landscapes to appreciate the kaleidoscopic beauty of America’s cradle.
When William Wood published his 1634 manuscript, “New England’s Prospect”, he described it as “a true, lively, and experimentall description of that part of America, commonly called New England”. Wood had spent a number of years in the region during its colonial infancy, little more than a decade after the Pilgrim’s landing, at a time when New England was still a place of mysterious fascination to the Old World.
Nearly four centuries have passed since Woods’ era, and in many ways, the mystique of New World dissipated long ago. But with New England Prospects it is my hope that I can rekindle in us that spirit of pioneering enchantment, as if experiencing it for the first time.
